Latvian Men's Association Seeks Signatures Again: This Time They've Collected Almost 50!

The fifteen-year campaign continues with unimpressive results. More people stand in line for the tram in Liepāja.
The Central Election Commission announced that slightly more than 50 people have signed so far to strengthen the concept of family in the Constitution. For comparison — more people buy tomatoes at Liepāja Central Market in a day.
This is already the fifth time the Latvian Men's Association is trying to collect 150,000 signatures. Previously they managed to collect 1,097, which in Liepāja terms is almost one and a half tram cars worth of passengers. As local philosopher Gunārs from Karosta says: "I don't know what they're doing there, but it seems to me they should advertise more. Maybe put a poster on the tram."
Just think — there's almost a whole year until next November! If they collected one signature per day, by the deadline they'd have 365. That would still be only 0.24% of the required amount, but nobody can deny that's progress.
In Riga such initiatives usually die in silence, but in Liepāja we at least talk about them. And that's something! Plus here you can sign at the notary, at the municipality, or even abroad — there are many opportunities, just not many signatures.
