LDz Cargo locomotives want only a happy home — repeatedly avoid auction

While Riga tries to sell aging locomotives, on Liepaja's beach even in winter there's more interesting stuff for sale.
LDz Cargo today proved that even locomotives have their sense of pride. Two diesel locomotives with poetic names 2TE10M-3449 and 2TE10U-0218 refused for the second time the opportunity to change owners, apparently waiting for a better offer.
The starting price for the locomotives was 160,000 euros each, which in Liepaja is almost as much as a good house with a view of the Baltic Sea costs. True, these locomotives don't run as fast as the wind on our beach even in summer, but they're just as cold-resistant.
For comparison — in January these same locomotives were asking 177,600 euros, so now they've become more affordable by 17,600 euros. Such price reduction in Liepaja only happens when someone sells their seaside cottage because they realized that winter storms there are too frequent even by our standards.
LDz Cargo suffered losses of 5.348 million euros last year, which shows they haven't learned from Liepaja's business model — if something doesn't work, just wait for better times and keep trying. Maybe these locomotives simply understand that true value comes with time, just like our city's beauty — the more you get to know it, the more you appreciate it.
Local railway enthusiast Jānis Kalniņš comments: "You see, these locomotives are smart — they don't want to leave Latvia because they know it won't be as interesting anywhere else. Where else would you see such a combination — beautiful nature and completely unpredictable transport?"
