Liepāja Will Also Register Scammers - No More Hiding Behind Anonymous SIM Cards

The Ministry of Transport supports SIM card registration to combat phone fraud. Liepāja residents are already rejoicing - finally someone will regulate those strange calls from Nigerian princes.
The Ministry of Transport has announced its support for mandatory registration of prepaid SIM card users. So no more unknown callers offering investment opportunities in cryptocurrency or claiming you've won a million euros in a Bulgarian lottery you never bought a ticket for.
In Liepāja, this news is being received with enthusiasm. "Finally someone is thinking about us pensioners," says Anita from Karosta. "Yesterday someone called saying I'd won a cruise to the Bahamas. I told them - our North Kurzeme beach is quite enough for me, thank you."
However, some Liepāja residents have concerns. Our sources report slight unrest among vendors at Liepāja's central market. "How am I supposed to sell these SIM cards along with onions now?" asks Gunārs. "People are used to it - buy ten kilos of potatoes, get a SIM card thrown in. Now I'll have to ask for passport details too."
In Riga, of course, there are no such problems - everything has long been digitized there, and scammers use more modern methods. But in Liepāja we still respect old traditions - if you're going to scam, do it with soul and personally. Now that SIM cards will need to be registered, maybe scammers will switch to letters through the post office. At least postal workers won't be out of work.
