Liepāja discovers that clothing's second life begins when the first one has already ended three times

While Riga is still learning to sort waste, Liepāja residents are already organizing complete clothing reincarnation ceremonies at the Latvian Society House.

While Riga residents are still learning to sort plastic from paper, Liepāja's creative minds have already discovered how to give second life to clothing that has already survived several lives itself. On April 25th, the "Spring Swap" will take place at Liepāja's Latvian Society House — an event where clothes are sold, exchanged and inspired just like Liepāja residents at the Karosta canal bridge, who also experience daily drama about which side is better to fall off.

"My grandmother's dress has already been in fashion three times and out of fashion twice," says local resident Maija, who has been trying to sell the same red jacket for the third year. "But now is the right time to give it a fourth chance. Maybe someone will buy it as vintage."

Event organizers admit that the participation fee of 12 euros for two square meters is symbolic, since in Liepāja even symbolic square meters cost more than Riga's city center. "We're trying to be environmentally responsible," explains organizer Kristīna. "If clothing can survive Liepāja's storms, it can definitely survive a second owner too."

Meanwhile, while Riga's fashion gurus are still wondering if the second life cycle needs certification, Liepāja's marketplace is already proving that fashion is eternal — just like Liepāja's wind, which never stops and always comes back.
