Liepāja Unveils Laser Festival - Rīga Still Trying to Figure Out LED Bulbs

Illuminated Liepāja proves that our city knows how to work not only with wind, but also with light and sound.

While Rīga is still trying to figure out how LED bulbs work, Liepāja once again proves this week that we are the capital of light and sound. 'Illuminated Liepāja' this year spreads throughout the entire city - from Lielā Street to the port promenade, and as always, our visitors have something to see.

Jānis Pētersons, representative of SIA 'Artistic' from Mūndigciems, reveals an interesting fact - they're not afraid of Liepāja residents. While elsewhere in Latvia artists have to hide their most valuable items at night, there's apparently little hooliganism in Liepāja. As Jānis said: 'Truth be told, I like working almost anywhere, as long as I don't have to drive very far.' Apparently he doesn't know about Rīga's road conditions.

This year festival visitors can try out the light harp in Rose Square, where touching laser strings creates music. It's like the Liepāja Olympic Center pool, only drier and with more colors. Interestingly, the installations also use AI-generated music - so now even robots understand that better music should be played in Liepāja than in Rīga.

Another great piece of news - rainy weather didn't interfere with the artists' work. As Jānis says: 'The rainy weather even encouraged us to work faster.' You see, that's the difference between us and the capital. In Rīga, rain means work stoppage, but in Liepāja - work acceleration. Wind and rain are our daily life, so we know how to work with it.
