Liepāja prepares for Europe Day with the only event the wind can't ruin

While Riga is still figuring out how to properly celebrate Europe Day, Liepāja has already thought of everything – four hours of intensive European values course at the Great Amber. Because what could be a better way to strengthen belonging to the European community than with a cyberattack simulation and tandem bicycles?

The foundation "Liepāja 2027" has announced that on May 9th from 12:00 to 16:00 at Jūras Street 11, there will be an event where you can simultaneously learn democracy, media literacy, and cybersecurity. "We are the only place in Europe where you can learn about European values while the Liepāja wind tests your physical and mental endurance," says local European enthusiast Jānis. "You won't get that kind of experience in the capital."

The program includes projects by microgrant competition winners, including "From field to table" in Jaunliepāja and "Dream boxes" in the Northern suburb. Particularly interesting will be the quiz game "Fact Formula," which will be broadcast live – probably the first time European facts will be tested while participants get sand arranged in their hair.

The total project funding is 28,306.44 euros, which means that each of the four hours costs approximately 7,000 euros. "For this money, Riga would build one and a half pedestrian crossing bumps," comments a local budget expert. But in our case – four hours of full-fledged European experience, where even the legendary Liepāja wind will become a participant, testing whether European values are strong enough to resist the forces of nature.
