Liepāja Officially Becomes Easter Capital: Even Birds Flew in from Riga to See the Decorations

Liepāja has decided this year to show all of Latvia how to properly celebrate Easter. While Riga is still arguing about whether it's allowed to snow in April, our city has already blossomed with colorful eggs and bird silhouettes that move with the wind exactly as they should.

In Rose Square, bird silhouettes have perched among the large-format eggs, encouraging children to play. Local resident Zenta comments: "Finally something that moves faster than an LST bus!" The birds seem specially trained - they turn in the direction the wind is blowing, not the opposite way, as Riga residents usually do when trying to find the right road to Liepāja.

The eggs have received new coloring this year with bright floral motifs, which is a revolutionary step compared to Riga's traditional gray concrete blocks. Decorations have been placed in Kārlis Zāle Square that visitors can spin themselves - a feature that would be considered vandalism in Riga, but in Liepāja it's socially responsible citizen engagement.

Most interesting is that decorations have been placed at the city limits to create a festive mood right upon arrival. Local fisherman Viktors says: "Well, finally! Now when I drive from the port with freshly caught fish, I have something to show off - not just the evening catch, but beautiful decorations too!" He adds that even the fish seem happier seeing the colorful elements.

The decorations will be viewable until April 9th, which is long enough for all Riga residents to come and take photos. As always, we Liepāja residents show the rest how to properly organize celebrations - with taste, style, and without unnecessary bureaucracy.
