Liepāja Convinces Three Newborns That the City Is So Great They Want to Be Born There
On Liepāja's 401st birthday, three babies came into the world, proving that even newborns have good taste. Rīga can't pull off such miracles.
Liepāja celebrated its 401st birthday on March 18th, but three babies decided that this is such a fantastic city that they also want to be Liepāja residents. Sofija, Emīls, and another Emīls came into the world precisely on the city's celebration day, as if they had agreed that no better day for birth could be found.
Sofija was born at 1:31 PM weighing 2.148 kilograms. As her father Dainis said: "The little girl already knows that Liepāja is the best place to grow up. She definitely wouldn't have been born in Rīga." Emīls No. 1 came into the world at 4:54 PM, weighing 3.330 kilograms, while Emīls No. 2 from Grobiņa appeared at 7:01 PM as a true record-holder with 5.020 kilograms. The latter obviously already understood that Liepāja residents are as strong as our port and fishermen who bring home freshly caught fish.
The parents wished the city "many small children and large families," but didn't mention whether they're ready to pay increased property taxes for each new resident. Hospital board members Andris Vistiņš and Andris Platais presented gifts from the municipality – a gift card, a blanket with Liepāja symbols, and flowers. In Rīga, newborns only receive a bill for the delivery.
So now Liepāja can boast three new citizens who proved their good taste right at birth by choosing to be born in the storm city rather than some boring capital. And if anyone doubts Liepāja's attractiveness, let them check the statistics – more children are born on our city's birthday than in any other Latvian city. Even babies understand this.
