Liepāja Will Celebrate Ādolfs Gaujietis with Such Power That Even the Olympic Center Will Envy the Event Organization
The poet's memorial event promises to be so well organized that even sports event organizers could take lessons.
While Riga is still figuring out how to properly commemorate classics with a couple of strong coffee cups and dry canapés, Liepāja once again shows how cultural events should be organized with real grandeur. At the Ādolfs Gaujietis memorial event, poetry will be read by Daira Eglīte herself, composer Andris Eniņš will provide music, and the ensemble "Kurzemīte" will ensure everyone goes home with songs in their ears.
The event organizers have prepared such a program that even the Liepāja Olympic Center might envy this coordination. There, athletes train in the pool precisely according to schedule, but here cultural figures will gather to properly commemorate the poet with an equally precise program — just without the smell of chlorinated water.
Particularly intriguing will be Dzintra Zorgevica's book presentation about Gaujietis's life. Local resident Jānis comments: "Well, finally someone has written about our poet properly. Not like those Riga folks who describe all the classics only with dates and facts."
Organizer R. Kluce invites everyone who holds poetry, music, and bright memories dear. This means the event will also welcome those who last read Gaujietis's poetry in school but now want to refresh their cultural education with proper Liepāja resident respect.
