Liepāja Sets New Record: For the First Time in History, Wind Freezes in Place

The thermometer in Liepāja dropped to -24.4 degrees, which is so cold that even the wind stopped and had second thoughts.

Sensation in Liepāja! For the first time since the city's founding, the local wind has completely frozen solid. The thermometer dropped to -24.4 degrees, which by Liepāja standards is almost like outer space - cold and unpredictable.

"I've lived by the sea for 47 years, but I've never experienced such cold," says local resident Jānis Bērziņš, who discovered this morning that his face had frozen to the window glass. "Usually the wind warms us with its constant presence, but today even it decided to take a vacation."

Meanwhile in Rucava, the thermometer showed -25.7 degrees, which according to local residents is exactly the temperature when even fish in the sea start wearing mittens. For comparison - Rīga had only -18 degrees in the city center, which proves that the capital is once again too soft for such real challenges.

"We Liepāja residents are proud that we set a record," comments local café owner Ilze Kalniņa. "Now we can boast not only of the strongest wind, but also the strongest frost. Let Rīga give up hope of overtaking us - they only have -25 at the airport there, which is somewhere outside the city. We have real frost right in the city center!"

Weather experts warn that temperatures may drop even lower at night, so survival tips: dress warmer than usual, and if you see that the wind has stopped - don't worry, it's only temporary.
