Three Daredevils Apply for Liepāja 2027 Board Position - Salary Like a Rock Star
Three candidates ready to lead the European Capital of Culture project for 2400 euros per month, which is more than most Liepāja residents see in a year.
The Liepāja 2027 project is seeking a new board member, and this time three brave candidates have applied, who apparently haven't heard the Liepāja rock legend "Jumprava's" song about money not being the main thing. Or they have heard it and that's exactly why they understood that 2400 euros per month is almost like a rock star's fee.
While in Riga such money can only rent you a small garage in Ķengarags, in Liepāja with this salary you can feel like a real cultural magnate. Foundation representative Zita Lazdāne promises that candidate evaluation will be strict — they'll check both professional experience and competencies. Possibly also whether the candidate can withstand Liepāja's winds without losing their compass.
Particularly interesting that Eva Ciekurze left the position for private reasons. Local residents are already speculating: either she found a better job, or simply realized that managing a European Capital of Culture project is more complicated than organizing a concert on Bird Island. But as one of the applicants said: "I'm not afraid of challenges — if Liepāja can raise so many rock legends, then I can survive board meetings."
In the upcoming selection process, candidates will have to prove not only their skills, but also their ability to work until the end of 2028. That's just as long as it takes for a new rock band to grow up in Liepāja and conquer all of Latvia.
