Liepāja's Route 8 Starts Operating Like Real Transportation: Four More Trips Than Winter and a Miracle at Jūrmala Park

Starting in April, the Līva-Šķēde route will run seven times a day, which is as often as Riga residents complain about their buses.

While Riga is still figuring out how to make buses run at least once an hour, Liepāja's Route 8 will prove starting April 1st that public transportation in our city can be as reliable as the old trees in Jūrmala Park — always in their place and without unnecessary noise.

The Līva–Šķēde route will now have seven trips per day in each direction, which is four more than in winter. As local pensioner Jānis, who rides to Šķēde every day, said: "I thought April was April Fool's Day, but it turns out this time the municipality is the one fooling around — in a positive way."

Seasonal adjustments will continue in May, when two more trips will be added — one in the morning and one in the evening hours. This will be just in time for gardening season, because as every Liepāja gardener knows, without proper transportation to Šķēde, it's impossible to grow potatoes, tomatoes, or patience for Riga's buses.

During Easter holidays from April 3rd to 6th, all transportation will operate on a holiday schedule, and weekday passes won't work. The ticket office will also close at 3:30 PM on April 2nd, because even public transportation employees need time to prepare Easter eggs and think about how well we're doing compared to neighboring cities.
