Liepāja neighborhoods ready for European day battle: 1000 euros each and infinite glory

Nine Liepāja neighborhoods will split 9000 euros to prove that we too can be European - just better than Riga.
Big news from the Amber Concert Hall area! The "Liepāja 2027" project has announced a competition where nine of our neighborhoods can compete for a total prize fund of 9000 euros. That's 1000 euros per neighborhood — almost as much as one coffee costs in Riga.
The competition's goal is to "highlight" all nine neighborhoods and "promote city unity." Well, if Karosta and Old Liepāja haven't united after all these years, then 1000 euros will definitely do the trick. "I can already feel that European spirit," says Tosmare resident Jānis. "Especially when I think about that money."
Activities must be interactive and create a connection between neighborhood identity and European values. Ezerkrasts residents are already planning to host a tasting "European waters vs. Liepāja waters" — spoiler alert: Liepāja will win. Meanwhile, Southwest district is thinking about an event called "How to be European without Riga's arrogance."
Applications can be submitted until March 15th, and funding comes from all sorts of places — even South Kurzeme municipality has allocated 287.44 euros. Such a precise amount indicates either serious planning or very specific mathematical skills. In any case, this is a great opportunity to show that Liepāja neighborhoods can be just as diverse as European countries, only with better coffee and without that boring diplomatic protocol.
