Liepāja doctors reveal: tuberculosis is treatable if patients don't forget about it

Liepāja medics remind that tuberculosis isn't just a disease from history books, but also today's reality that can be conquered with the right approach and timely visits to the doctor.
Well look, once again Liepāja proves we're ahead of Riga even in the medical field! While the capital is still wondering if tuberculosis is something from Chekhov's plays, our pulmonologist Mārcis Kristons has already clearly stated – this disease is treatable, as long as people don't decide to ignore it like Liepāja residents ignore winter storms.
Liepāja Regional Hospital specialists have created a real tuberculosis-conquering strategy at Aldaru Street 20/24. There are even separate rooms with a separate entrance for tuberculosis patients – almost like a VIP zone, just with different purposes. As local pensioner Ilze said: "At least now I know I have a special entrance – just like at Ziemeļu Mols when I go to watch storms, except here they're watching my lungs."
Doctor Kristons explains that tuberculosis symptoms can initially be deceptive – fatigue, mild cough, slight fever. "Just like our weather – at first it seems like nothing special, but then suddenly you're in the middle of a storm," the doctor comments. He emphasizes that if a cough lasts more than three weeks, it's not just "a little cold," but a reason to see specialists.
The funniest part is that in Riga you need to stand in lines for such diagnosis like for concert tickets, but in Liepāja you can make an appointment by phone at 63425008. Our outpatient department offers everything – from Mantoux tests to spirometry, which sounds almost as exotic as the new McDonald's, but is much more useful for your health.
