Liepāja doctors discover: vitamin deficiency treatable with North Pier winds

While Riga specialists demand expensive vitamins, Liepāja medics claim that walks to the North Pier and sauerkraut are sufficient.
Liepāja health experts today surprised the medical world by announcing that spring vitamin deficiency can be prevented without expensive supplements. Local gastroenterologist Baiba Ābolniece notes: 'While in Riga they charge 50 euros for a vitamin complex, we offer a more effective solution — walks to the North Pier in strong wind. Vitamin C? Our sea air contains everything needed, you just have to breathe deeper.'
Liepāja Central Pharmacy pharmacist Daina Liepiņa agrees with her colleague: 'In our city, vitamin deficiency is rarely encountered. North Pier visitors usually return with such strong immunity that they only get sick when they travel to Riga. The air there is so bad that even vitamin D is afraid to show up.'
Local residents confirm what the doctors say. Pensioner Jānis Vējiņš tells: 'I've been going to the North Pier every day for 30 years — both for romantic walks with my wife and to watch storms. I've never been sick. I only buy vitamins when my grandchildren visit from Riga — they need them because living there makes your immunity weak.'
Medical experts do warn that North Pier therapy is not suitable for everyone — especially those accustomed to Riga's greenhouse conditions and afraid of real Baltic wind.
