Liepāja Library to Teach How Not to Disgrace Your Lineage in the Internet's Depths

While Riga libraries are still pondering whether seminars are needed, Liepāja is already preparing cyber warriors and ancestry hunters.
Liepāja Central Scientific Library has decided that just reading books is too boring. Therefore, as part of Digital Week, they will teach Liepāja residents two of the most important 21st century skills: how not to get scammed by fraudsters and how to find your ancestors without selling your soul to genealogy site operators.
Center director Gita Švarce explains that the seminars will take place both in-person at the "Old Liepāja Dwarf" premises and online. "We thought - if people are sitting on the internet anyway, they might as well learn how not to fall into trouble there," Švarce clarifies. In the first seminar, cybersecurity specialist Egils Stūrmanis will explain why you shouldn't trust hot lonely women from Nigeria.
Interestingly, archive specialist Milana Drugoveiko will teach how to properly organize home archives. "First you need to throw away all gas receipts from 1995, then you can start looking for grandma's birth certificate," suggests one participant who has been trying for three years to prove that his great-grandfather wasn't a Latvian rifleman, but rather a mechanic.
Meanwhile, police inspector Gints Briķis will explain how not to respond to SMS messages saying that for your account security you need to send all your data and PIN codes. As one listener said: "I still don't understand why 'Swedbank' writes from an Indian number, but good that I'll find out now." Meanwhile, students at the University of Liepāja are already planning to create a special course "How Not to Fool Parents with Digital Skills," as it turns out even the younger generation has something to learn.
It should be noted that this is already the 17th year of Digital Week in Latvia, which proves - our nation is slowly but surely mastering digital wisdom. While Riga is still thinking about whether such events are necessary, Liepāja is already preparing the next generation of cyber warriors.
