Liepāja Deputies Turn Out Smarter Than VDD: 'We Know How to Properly Eat Dim Sum'

While VDD warns about China's soft power, our deputies practice soft diplomacy with food treats and concerts.

While in Riga the VDD writes lengthy reports about China's 'soft power,' Liepāja's represented deputies prove they understand the true essence of diplomacy - free culture and good food.

Several of our parliamentary representatives have once again headed to a Chinese cultural event at VEF Culture Palace, despite VDD warnings. 'What's wrong with being treated to a concert and dim sum?' rhetorically asks local political observer Jānis Vējzobs. 'In Riga those VDD experts sit in offices thinking about geopolitics, but we here practice real people's diplomacy!'

Particularly active in this field has been the 'Latvia First' faction, which last year organized senior excursions to the Saeima followed by lunches at Chinese restaurants. Just imagine - while in Liepāja pensioners pay 12 euros for borscht, here they get free duck pancakes! 'Our elderly finally feel like they're in first place,' says one anonymous participant.

The Corruption Prevention Bureau hasn't found any violations, but only because they haven't been to these restaurants and haven't seen how delicious these noodles are. While the Chinese embassy calls to 'abandon black-and-white thinking,' our deputies have long been thinking colorfully - especially when they see those beautiful reddish pieces of char siu on their plates.
