Liepāja City Council Approves Budget Larger Than Durbe's Annual Dreams of Glory

Liepāja deputies on Thursday approved 15.3 million euro budget amendments, proving that our city knows how to spend money more stylishly than Riga officials.

Liepāja City Council on Thursday proved that our city not only knows how to beautifully spend money, but does so with such elegance that even neighboring town Durbe, which usually prides itself on its tranquility, started nervously looking in our direction. 15.3 million euro budget amendments – that's a sum for which you could buy half of Durbe and still have enough left over for a coffee machine.

Quite interestingly, the largest portion of funding is planned to be directed toward education. Kindergarten "Kriksītis" was allocated 116,600 euros for computer purchases, because apparently our four-year-olds already program better than Riga's IT specialists. While the capital is still thinking about how to implement digitalization, Liepāja's toddlers are already ready to take over the world with their technology skills.

Special mention goes to the 2.7 million euros for European Capital of Culture 2027. This is proof that we are not only preparing to become Europe's cultural center, but are doing so with such financial scope that even Riga will start biting its nails with envy. As one anonymous deputy said after the vote: "Now we just have to wait for Riga to ask us to lend them money for their cultural projects."

88,706 euros were allocated for public safety for municipal police, which means our law enforcement will soon be better equipped than NATO forces. And if anyone thinks that's expensive, they obviously haven't seen Riga's budget, where the same amount disappears like sand in the wind.
