Liepāja Railway Station to Open Micro-Gallery Smaller Than a Toilet But With Bigger Ambitions

At the railway station where people usually wait for trains to nowhere, they can now contemplate art about nowhere.

While Riga is still figuring out where to put its massive art projects, Liepāja once again proves we know how to do things compactly and efficiently. On March 27th, the railway station will unveil micro-gallery "Platform" – a cultural space so tiny that artists will have to think twice whether their work will fit through the door.

The association "Re!Liepāja," which has long proven it can transform anything into a cultural object, has now decided that even a railway station can become an art center. As the gallery's creators say: every beginning needs its launching point. And where better to start than on a platform where people are already standing around waiting anyway?

The micro-gallery promises to be conceptually powerful, focusing on objects, spatial works, and experimental design. In other words – if your artwork is bigger than a shoebox, it won't fit in there. But that's not bad! As one local culture enthusiast said: "We in Liepāja don't need massive works like in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Cathedral with ornate grand celebrations – we know how to appreciate small art too."

Interested parties are invited to the opening at 2:00 PM, where they can get acquainted with the gallery's visual identity and future plans. We assume the visual identity will be smaller than A4 format, but the plans – as vast as the Baltic Sea. After all, only in Liepāja can you create a gallery that's smaller than most apartment bathrooms, but with ambitions to surpass the Louvre.
