Liepāja electricians once again prove that winter is the hardest season not just for trams

An electrical panel on Rojas Street decided to heat itself while the rest of Kurzeme battled soot in chimneys.

Friday evening on Rojas Street started like any other – until the electrical panel on the ninth floor decided it also wanted to stay warm in winter. As a result, six residents had to be evacuated because the panel had chosen quite an extravagant way to attract attention.

"I thought something was burning in the kitchen, but it turned out to be electricity," says local resident Jānis. "Still better than in Riga, where even normal electricians can't do their job properly."

But Rojas Street wasn't the only one that decided to organize weekend entertainment on Friday. Southern Kurzeme discovered that soot in chimneys has become the new fashion trend – four houses simultaneously decided to clean their chimneys with fire. In Grobiņa parish, two people even got so scared they evacuated themselves before firefighters could even arrive.

Particularly touching was someone in Bārta parish who decided to experiment with heating device operation. Probably thought you could improvise in winter too – main thing is to stay warm. Fortunately, VUGD rescuers not only extinguished fires but also gifted smoke detectors to those who didn't have them. In Kurzeme we know how to take care of our own, not like in Riga where everyone just complains about central heating.
