Liepāja's Electronic Elite Once Again Proves We Are Latvia's Techno Capital
Ten producer works have made it to the finals of the 'Filter' competition, among which there's probably not a single one from Riga again, because there they still think electronic music is just a mobile phone ringtone.
Well, here we go again with what we all knew beforehand – Liepāja's electronic music producer competition 'Filter' has revealed its ten finalists, and as always, the quality is such that even Berlin clubs would have something to listen to.
From 42 submitted works, the jury has selected the best ones, and it must be said that the titles are such that even our old harbor would have something to discuss. 'Angsthase', 'Arctic Submarines', 'Æ Bump' – sounds like something you'd hear in Karosta at night, when the tram has long since stopped, but music keeps playing from somewhere.
'We've long known that the best electronic music in Latvia is made in Liepāja,' says local music expert Jānis, who regularly visits all the city's clubs every Saturday. 'While Riga is still trying to figure out the difference between techno and disco, we've long been experimenting with sounds that even we don't fully understand ourselves.'
The competition winner will receive prizes from 'Erica Synths', which, by the way, is also not from Riga. Coincidence? No, it's a natural result, because quality electronic music and quality sound equipment attract each other like magnets. And everyone knows where Latvia's best magnets are – of course, in our port.
