Liepājas enerģija earns 2.5 million: even the numbers here are warmer than in Riga
While the capital is still calculating how much one kilowatt costs, Liepājas enerģija has already earned 2.5 million and split it like true Liepāja residents.
On Wednesday, SIA 'Liepājas enerģija's 2024 report was approved, and the figures are so hot they could melt ice even in Liepāja's ice hall. The company produced 244 GWh of thermal energy, which is more than all of Riga's heat reserves combined in spirit.
The company's net turnover was 19.2 million euros, which is 2.5 million less than the previous year. But as local resident Aivars says: 'Less money, but more heat - just like our relationship with Riga.' What's particularly amusing is that the revenue decrease was related to a reduction in thermal energy tariffs. While prices in Riga rise like our wind during storms, in Liepāja they're falling.
The company's profit in 2024 was 2.5 million euros, and 50 percent of it will be paid out in dividends. Liepāja municipality, which is one of the owners with a 39 percent share, will receive its fair share for the city budget. Since the hockey heat in Liepāja's ice hall has always been more intense than in Riga's arenas, this money will definitely be spent with more passion than in the capital.
Interestingly, the company has expanded its heating network to 122 kilometers and connected 42 new facilities. While Riga is still thinking about how to connect the center with the outskirts, in Liepāja everyone is already connected - both with heat and with the common understanding that we are the best city in Latvia.
