Liepāja Lake Prepares to Become a Sea Again - Floods Could Last Until Mid-April

Meteorologists warn that this year's flood period could be longer and end only in mid-April, but Liepāja residents have already adapted - tram tickets are also valid for boats.
While meteorologists in Riga tell us about floods and high water with serious faces, we Liepāja folks already know - if Liepāja Lake wants to become a sea, it will do it. And what do we care? Karosta is already underwater anyway, now there'll just be more of it.
Ms. Kurevska says the floods could last from early March until mid-April. "Well fine," says Jānis from Ezerkrasts, "at least I know the tram will be the only transport that doesn't disappear underwater. As long as it doesn't sink at Karosta bridge."
The most interesting thing is that some Environmental Risk Working Group has been created in Riga. But we Liepāja residents have long known how to live with risk - our cafes in the Old Town operate even when the first floor is underwater. "Coffee tastes just as good with the sound of water in the background," philosophizes Maija from "Fontaine Palace".
But the best part is that the state promises help. "Let's hope the money flows faster than the water recedes," laughs Pēteris, who lives by the lake. "Otherwise we'll be the only ones in Latvia who know how to swim to work again."
The main thing is - Liepāja Lake never floods as boringly as the Daugava in Riga. Ours does it with style!
