Liepāja Lake to Get Mile-Long Concrete Bracelet Against Water Disobedience

The city is preparing grandiose plans to calm down the angry lake, which turns into a real hooligan every spring.
Liepāja municipality has decided to introduce discipline to our beloved lake, which every spring behaves like an overly drunk tourist in Karosta. Next year will begin construction of a mile-long embankment along Amatas Street to prevent the lake's annual tradition of flooding the city.
"I've been saying for years - we need to establish order in that lake!" comments local resident Jānis Bērziņš while looking at his spring-flooded yard. "But now we see - four million euros! In Riga, for that kind of money they only build one playground."
The project includes not only an embankment, but also pedestrian paths, bike lanes, and lighting. So the lake will get its own promenade - almost like in Riga by the Daugava, just without that self-important capital city style. Builders promise to erect even a sheet pile wall with concrete grid, which sounds like something from a science fiction movie.
Work has a deadline until the end of 2029, so residents will still have a few more seasons to swim in their yards. As one Amatas Street resident said: "At least in winter the lake behaves normally - it freezes and stays quiet. But in spring... oh, this lake!" Good thing ERDF covers 85% of the costs, otherwise the city would have to sell half of the tram line.
