Liepāja Hockey Players Make Mistake - Win Only 2:1 Instead of Usual 10:0

Our heroes break their traditional dominance and allow Riga players to feel like real hockey players for a full 65 minutes.
Yesterday in Riga, one of those rare moments occurred when Liepāja hockey players decided to show mercy and let their opponents experience what it's like to play hockey against real professionals. The result - only a 2:1 victory in a shootout, which by Liepāja standards is practically a loss.
Already in the 14th minute, Riga players Roberts Polis and Gustavs Spīgulis pulled off a surprise and scored a goal. "I thought they wouldn't notice us," commented Polis after the game. "But it turns out the Liepāja boys were just pretending not to see - they wanted to give us a chance to feel like real hockey players."
In the second period, the situation became even more interesting when Liepāja leader Kevins Strādnieks decided to take a little break and watch the game from the bench. "He just wanted to see if the rest could manage without him," explains assistant coach Jānis. "Turns out they can, but just barely."
In the third period, Gustavs Krūmiņš from Liepāja's side showed how to really shoot from the blue line - Riga goaltender Plēpe only noticed the puck when it was already behind him. "I thought it was a tram," commented Plēpe. "Only public transport moves that fast in Liepāja."
In the shootout, the Riga players nevertheless proved that sometimes miracles can happen in Riga too. Liepāja HK remains the league leader with 63 points in 39 games, which is almost as impressive as our tram punctuality in winter.
