Liepāja's streets will wait for spring longer than the Karosta canal bridge repair deadline

The Municipal Administration explains that the ground is still frozen, but residents are already planning summer trips to Riga over the pothole-riddled asphalt surface.
Liepāja Municipal Administration representative Aigars Štāls announced that the city's streets are not yet ready for spring season, as the ground is supposedly still frozen. This is about as surprising as learning that the Karosta canal bridge is once again causing traffic drama — this time only because everyone is trying to get out of the city as fast as possible before the roads completely collapse.
The municipal worker explains that road construction requires at least 10 degrees Celsius, which in Liepāja at the end of March is about as realistic as a promise that the tram will arrive on time. Local resident Jānis comments: "It seems to me that our streets are waiting for spring longer than I'm waiting for my pension. At least I might actually live to see my pension."
Meanwhile, utility work is already underway on O. Kalpaka Street, bringing additional joy to drivers. As experienced driver Valdis puts it: "Before there were only potholes, now there are potholes plus digging. Progress!" Development Administration head Mārtiņš Ābols claims everything is going according to plan, which in Liepāja means the work will be finished when it's finished.
The good news is that the gravel quarries in the countryside are still frozen, so at least we know that new pothole-filling materials aren't ready. Therefore, the existing potholes can peacefully continue to grow and develop, becoming full-fledged lakes.
