Liepāja Youth Invited to Celebrate City's Birthday - Contest to Figure Out What's Actually Happening Here

Liepāja Youth Council organizes the event 'Liepāja Inspiration', where participants aged 13-30 can discover what makes Liepāja special - possibly for the first time in their lives.

Liepāja Youth Council has decided it's time for young people to discover for themselves what makes our city special. On March 27th at the Youth House, the event 'Liepāja Inspiration' will take place, which is about as bold an experiment as trying to heat Liepāja's ice hall with one small heater.

At the event, participants will be able to engage in various creative workshops and test their knowledge in a quiz about Liepāja. Quiz questions will be like: 'Why do Liepāja buses run on their own schedule?' and 'How many times a week can you see the sun?' As local philosopher Jānis from Ezerkrasts says: 'If I knew what makes Liepāja special, I would have moved to Riga long ago.'

Event organizers hope that participants will discover the city's spirit, places, people and feelings that inspire. This means it could be the first time someone actually says something positive about Karosta. In the photo contest, participants will have to develop their own pictures, which is about as retro as our public transport.

Most intriguing is that in the video contest, participants must bring their own computers. Apparently the organizers aren't confident that the Youth House will have internet that works faster than Liepāja tram's maximum speed. But at least it will be warm — unlike the ice hall, where even hockey players sometimes freeze before the game starts.
