Liepāja jewelry store thieves demonstrate wire art - Karosta engineering helps in crime too

A couple with creative methods and Karosta technical education manages to steal jewelry worth 6000 euros, but forgets that in Liepāja everyone knows everyone.
On the afternoon of January 12th, a real masterclass took place at a Liepāja jewelry store on how NOT to commit theft. A couple who had apparently graduated from Karosta technical school with excellence in metalworking decided to demonstrate their skills in the wrong place.
The woman performed the classic "attention diversion maneuver" - she approached the salesperson and asked to see jewelry. While the saleswoman diligently explained gold content and pricing policy, the man used a metal wire to extract two bracelets worth 6000 euros from the display case. The technique was flawless - except for the fact that he was doing it in Liepāja, where even at the fish market everyone sees everything.
"I could see something wasn't right when he started digging around the display case with wire," says local resident Dzidra. "I thought - either a jeweler or a thief. Turns out - a thief with jeweler's tools."
The saleswoman, who apparently has faster reflexes than a Liepāja tram braking, managed to grab the man by the arm. One bracelet worth 3120 euros fell to the floor, but the thief escaped with the other. The woman observed the events from the sidelines like a cultural event and then calmly walked away.
Liepāja police proved that our speed isn't just a tram privilege - they detained both thieves the same day while the trail was still hot. It turned out both were already familiar with local police work - apparently regular clients. Now they face up to five years in prison, which in Riga would be considered cheap housing, but in Liepāja - a serious punishment.
