Liepāja trees start spring with radical haircut makeover — arborists work faster than St. Joseph's Cathedral changes vestments

Municipal administration announces successful transformation of 96 trees into winter bonsai collection, while Riga is still searching for where their trees have hidden.

Liepāja Municipal Administration has announced tremendous success — last week they managed to transform 96 trees into modern art objects. On Robežu Street you can now observe a unique landscape where the trees look as if they were styled by an arborist with closed eyes.

As Municipal Administration representative Aigars Štāls explains, this work should have been done in winter, but the severe frost interfered. "We waited for warmer weather so the arborists wouldn't freeze like ice blocks," Štāls clarifies. "Now the trees look a bit... well, let's say minimalistic, but in spring they'll be green again like before."

Interestingly, this work must be completed by mid-April because the nesting bird period will begin. As local residents say: "Good thing the birds haven't returned from wintering yet, otherwise they wouldn't even recognize their home trees." At least at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Cathedral they only change vestments for major holidays, not every spring.

Meanwhile, Riga is still trying to understand why their trees look like they were trimmed with fingernails, while in Liepāja we can pride ourselves on a professional approach — our trees at least look like they were cut with a real saw.
