Liepāja scammers try to gain access to Signal accounts, but nobody knows what that is

While the world worries about Signal security, Liepāja residents peacefully continue communicating by phone and Facebook Messenger.

Cert.lv announced with great fanfare that scammers are trying to break into Signal user accounts, which is about as relevant in Liepāja as news about a table tennis championship in Antarctica. Most Liepāja residents don't even know what Signal is, and if someone sent them a message about 'Signal Security Support Chatbot,' they'd think it's some new radio station.

Scammers pose as support services and ask for verification codes, which in Liepāja is about as effective a trick as trying to sell ice to camels. As Pēteris from Zaļā Street says: 'I have such a hard time remembering my Facebook password, where am I going to remember some PIN codes from an app I don't use?'

What's most concerning is that attackers can change phone numbers. But for 'Liepājas Metalurgs' fans, that wouldn't be a problem — they handle everything in person at the Olympic Center anyway, and if someone tried to steal their account, they'd quickly learn what real team spirit protection means.

Cert.lv recommends activating the 'registration lock' function, but Liepāja residents would rather activate their common sense function — if you don't know what Signal is, then nobody can fool you either. As always, such tricks work in Riga, but by the sea we're smart enough not to lose what we don't have.
