Liepāja Port Rejects Cooperation Offer from Mexican Businessmen

Liepāja Port's board officially announced on Monday that it is terminating all talks with business representatives from Mexico's Jalisco state after their main negotiating partner Osegera unexpectedly died during transport to the capital. "We understand that business is business, but when clients are transported on planes with injuries, that's not our level," comments the port director.

Port management was particularly concerned by the fact that after their negotiating partner's death, his team members started burning cars and blocking roads. "In Riga they also sometimes burn cars, but there it's only after hockey games, and they only block roads with snow," ironizes local journalist Kārlis. "Here in Karosta we have a different culture - if we don't like something, we simply can't find the tram stop."

The Mexican entrepreneurs offered a considerable cargo volume, but the Liepāja side rejected the offer after learning that their main product was fentanyl. "We have our own tradition - we only handle cargo we wouldn't be ashamed to tell our mothers about," explains port worker Juris. "Besides, they also wanted rocket launchers, but we already have enough problems with bird feeding."

Liepāja's mayor emphasized that the city will continue developing cooperation with friendlier countries: "We have enough adrenaline with our local weather and road repairs. We don't need foreign drama."
