Liepāja RAS Launches Biggest Electronics Hunt Show Since Tram Planning

The Journey of the Plug returns with such fervor that even the Holy Trinity Cathedral organ starts nervously humming.

Liepāja RAS officially announced that from March 23 to April 30, the annual electronics collection championship will take place, which is as eagerly awaited as the return of trams to Karosta. This time the competition has been given the poetic name "Journey of the Plug," because apparently someone thought that old TV sets really do travel around homes like tourists.

The competition rules are as simple as Liepāja's wind — collect used electronics and hope the jury doesn't also demand a functionality demonstration. The three most diligent schools will receive cash prizes up to 400 euros, which is about as much as one taxi ticket from Liepāja to Riga costs.

"Our little Jānis has been trying to convince grandma to give up the old TV for the second week now," says one local mother. "He says it's environmentally friendly, but I know he just wants to win."

It should be particularly noted that the competition also allows participation with videos about hazardous waste. This is a great opportunity for children to creatively explain why you can't throw an old microwave in the Holy Trinity Cathedral courtyard, even though its organ sounds so powerful it could convince even the oldest electronics to work again.

As one Liepāja RAS representative said: "This competition is as important as proper waste sorting in Riga — though nobody there knows how to do it right either."
