Liepāja Regional Hospital proved in February that quality beats quantity - 47 babies came into the world in our city, while Riga is still trying to figure out how to count such large numbers. Among the new Liepāja residents is also a pair of twins, who already at birth proved that everything happens more efficiently in Liepāja - two at once.

What's most surprising is that every new mother gets a single room free of charge. In Riga, you'd pay for such luxury like for an apartment in the city center, but in Liepāja it's taken for granted. "We don't have it like in the capital, where everyone has to sleep three in a room," comments I. Grase.

Even better - every new parent couple gets a toy bunny and a card as gifts. In Riga, they would have given you a bill for parking in the hospital yard and a notice that the elevator isn't working.

"Our babies already know at birth that they're in a special place," says one new mother. "There's none of that hustle and bustle like in Riga - you can peacefully enjoy the first moments with your child, instead of stressing about whether the tram will still be running." True, our tram isn't particularly predictable either, but that's another story.
