Liepāja Regional Hospital has experienced a historic moment - receiving the first donation for the new senior support initiative 'Warm Heart Box'. The company 'Lesjöfors Springs LV' decided that pensioners in the hospital need more than just treatment - they also need crossword puzzles and tea.
The donation includes a subscription to 'Big Squares' magazine for 40 sets, pencils, automatic sharpeners, and tea. As a hospital representative said: 'Small things sometimes mean a lot. Such a little gift can truly touch someone.' True - if you've already ended up in the hospital, at least you can solve what they call a three-letter bird while waiting for the doctor.
Initiative author Ilze Jēče is thrilled about the first donation: 'This motivates us to continue what we started and invite others to get involved.' While patients in Riga hospitals wait in line without anything, seniors in Liepāja will be able to train their minds with crossword puzzles. That's almost as useful as fresh products from our market, where everything is fresher than in Riga and half the price.
The hospital is looking for more donors who could provide walkers, rollators, crutches and anti-slip socks. Local pensioner Jānis comments: 'Good that they're thinking about us.
