Liepāja Social Service Organizes Musical Performance - Riga Already Starting to Envy Our Inclusion Skills

While the capital is still figuring out how to properly address people with special needs, in Liepāja they're already preparing a concert for the city's birthday.

Liepāja Social Service has announced a musical performance "We – For Liepāja," and once again our city proves that true inclusion doesn't happen on paper, but in real life. While Riga is still forming committees to discuss how to more politically correctly address people with special needs, in Liepāja they're already preparing to perform for the city's 401st birthday.

Day center participants will perform at "Lielais Dzintars," and as local resident Mirdza says: "Finally an event where people come not just to grumble, but also to support!" This time visitors will be able to not only listen, but also view creative works made in specialized workshops. This is the same center whose works already gained sympathy at the "Made in Liepāja" exhibition – and the competition there was serious!

Day center director Maija Agatiņa invites Liepāja residents to join this heartfelt event. "Our community is united and open to everyone," she says, and these aren't just pretty words. In Liepāja we prove this every day – whether it's the tram that stops for everyone, or the North Pier where youth, seniors, and families with children all stroll and watch storms, regardless of who they are.

Meanwhile in the capital they're still debating whether such events can be called "charity" events, or if that's discriminatory. To us Liepāja residents, such questions seem odd – here everyone is equal, especially when it's time to celebrate our beloved city's birthday.
