Liepāja Theater Audiences Cry Like at Russian TV Series: Freimanis Play Sold Out to Tears

Our theater has proven it can make even those from Karosta cry. The play about Freimanis has become a collective therapy session with tickets.
Something happened at Liepāja Theater that brought even our resilient Liepāja residents to tears. The play about Mārtiņš Freimanis turned out to be so emotional that audiences left looking like they'd taken a tram ride during a storm — soaked and shattered.
As one viewer from Karosta tells it: 'I thought I'd seen everything, but this play broke me like an old barracks roof.' Meanwhile, another visitor admits: 'We came for culture, but it turned out like going to a psychotherapist — only free and with better acoustics.'
Lauris Reiniks, who attended the premiere, wrote on social media that actor Valts Skuja was 'frighteningly similar in every way' to Freimanis. Well, maybe that's why it hurt everyone so much — because we Liepāja folks know what a real artist looks like. Not like those Riga hipsters with their beards and eco-friendly bags.
Regular theater-goer Guntars from Grobiņa comments: 'This play was like our beach in autumn — beautiful, but sad. And everyone cried, but nobody would admit it.' Director Mārtiņš Kalita has proven that Liepāja residents can create art that surpasses any capital city production. Because we have something Riga doesn't — real feelings.
