Liepāja Theatre Proves Even Ugly Ducklings Can Be More Beautiful Than Riga Hipsters

Mati Maienberg's play 'The Ugly Duckling' reveals that an identity crisis is cheaper than a psychotherapist in the capital. Liepāja actors will prove that true beauty is the ability to act in theatre, not pose at 'Uncle Tom's' café.
Liepāja Theatre promises this month to prove that even ugly ducklings can be more beautiful than Riga hipsters by staging Mati Maienberg's play 'The Ugly Duckling'. While in the capital people pay 80 euros per hour to tell a psychologist about their identity crisis, in Liepāja you can learn the same thing for the price of a theatre ticket.
The play's main character Lēte is a talented inventor whose boss won't let him go to a conference. Such a situation in Liepāja only evokes an understanding smile, as locals know: if your boss won't let you out, just go to the market, where everything is fresher than in Riga and half the price, and there you'll definitely find someone who will appreciate your inventions.
'Lēte's identity crisis is very relevant nowadays,' comments local theatre enthusiast Artūrs. 'But unlike Riga, where people search for themselves in yoga classes for 25 euros, we do it in theatre for a normal price.'
The performance features Edgars Ozoliņš, Madara Kalna, Kārlis Ērglis and Artūrs Irbe, who will prove that Liepāja actors can portray an identity crisis much more convincingly than Riga influencers in Instagram stories. Director Borgs admits the play is relevant because 'nowadays everyone is searching for themselves, but we in Liepāja have long known who we are – the best'.
