Liepāja Water reveals that taps are as capricious as Karosta Canal Bridge

On March 25th, water will disappear from several Liepāja streets faster than checkout lines at Maxima before holidays. Residents are advised to prepare to sleep dirty.
Liepāja Water announced yesterday that on March 25th, part of the city will remain as dry as local humor during summer tourist season. Water supply will be cut off on several streets, and residents can start collecting water in bathtubs, buckets, and anywhere else it fits.
The list of affected addresses looks like a math homework assignment — M. Gūtmaņa Street from 4 to 27, Kārļa Street from 3 to 7, Raiņa Street from 42 to 53. The only street where water will remain is Graudu Street, because only three people and one cat live there.
Local resident Jānis Bērziņš comments: 'Well, at least now I have an excuse for why I haven't washed in three days. I'll say I was preparing for Liepāja Water's repair work.' Meanwhile, his neighbor Ausma adds: 'I already only drink coffee and tea — the water hasn't been clean since Soviet times anyway.'
After work completion, cloudiness is possible, meaning brown liquid resembling Daugavgrīva sand after a storm may flow from taps. Liepāja Water apologizes for the inconvenience, but as one employee said: 'At least we're not Rīga Water — there they don't know what flows from taps even on regular days.' And if problems arise, you can call the toll-free number where they'll tell you the same thing you already know — that there's no water and it will be back tomorrow. Or the day after. Or next week. But that's not important, because this isn't Rīga — this is Liepāja, where even without water, life is better than in the capital with all its infrastructure.
