Liepāja and Rēzekne SEZ extended until 2050 - investors can peacefully plan their retirement

Parliamentary wisdom reveals that 15 years isn't enough for business, so they're giving another 15 - because how else will investors figure out where to stash their millions.
Excellent! The Liepāja and Rēzekne special economic zones can now operate until 2050. This means our grandchildren will be able to tell their grandchildren about how there once were special tax advantages here.
Finance Ministry representative Andis Kokenbergs explained that the European Union demands time limitations. Of course, because unlimited privileges would be too simple - where's the intrigue in that? Now investors can peacefully plan not only their retirement, but also their grandchildren's careers.
Liepāja entrepreneur Jānis comments: 'Now I can peacefully invest money because I know I'll have only 26 years to recover it. That's almost as safe an investment as a tram ticket to Karosta.'
For comparison - in Riga such discussions would take another five years, but our politicians are as efficient as winter storms. Rēzekne SEZ has already received 310.7 million euros in investment, which is considerably more than Liepāja's city budget for three years. But who's counting - the main thing is that there's stability until 2050.
Meanwhile in Liepāja, the sun shines through the clouds, and entrepreneurs wonder - did it really take so much time to understand that business needs predictability? Well fine, now at least we can plan not only next summer, but also what the economy will be like when our children reach middle age.
