While Riga is still trying to figure out how rhythmic gymnastics works and why you need so many ribbons, representatives of Liepāja Complex Sports School are already collecting medals like autumn leaves. From March 20-22 in the capital, our 11 gymnasts proved that it's not only the sound of Holy Trinity Cathedral's organ that can be heard from the courtyard - Liepāja girls also have such power that their performance is seen and heard throughout Latvia.

Adriāna Rone won the all-around in the senior highest national class and took gold with ribbon. As local sports expert Gunārs explains: "This girl does such wonders with the ribbon that even our city's seagulls stop and watch." Evelīna Ivanova in Elite class also didn't mess around - gold with ribbon and two bronzes with hoop and clubs. She placed 3rd in all-around, which on Liepāja's scale means she can confidently compete in the Olympics too.

In the junior category, Alise Kalniņa fought for silver medal with hoop, proving that the young generation also knows their stuff. Adele Antipina took 3rd place with ball, and Taisija Molotoka also 3rd place with hoop. Coach Jeļena Rieksta explains: "Here by the sea we're used to round things - both hoops, and little balls, and winds."

Now the team is preparing for the next qualifying round in Jūrmala at the end of April. As the coaches say, the programs need to be perfected even more diligently. But if Liepāja girls continue like this, soon Riga will have to think about how to win anything at all against our city. Maybe they should also start training by the sea with wind in their faces?
