Liepāja's winter finally realizes it's not wanted: meteorologists promise escape

After months of battling with Liepāja residents, winter has surrendered and plans to head to Riga, where someone might still appreciate it.
Liepāja meteorologists are pleased to announce that the harsh winter has finally taken the hint and is preparing to leave the city. This weekend will see winter's final desperate attempts - it will snow, then rain, then snow again, as if winter can't decide whether to stay or go.
"I've switched back to winter tires from summer ones for the third time this month," complains local driver Jānis. "This winter is like an uninvited guest who doesn't know when it's time to leave."
Meanwhile, Central Europe is already promising the first +20 degrees, which is perceived in Liepāja as a personal insult. Why can they have warmth while we have to endure snow and rain performances? Apparently even the weather has heard about Liepāja's rock festivals and wants to stay longer.
Locals are already preparing bunkers for spring - beachside café owners are nervously checking forecasts, as this year spring could arrive as unexpectedly as a ticket inspector on a tram. Karosta, meanwhile, already looks like spring - it's always equally gray and windy there.
"Meteorological spring in Kurzeme in the second half of next week," promise the forecasts. This means it will arrive in Riga a month earlier, because even weather prefers the capital. But we Liepāja residents are experienced - our spring will be more real and authentic than anywhere else.
