Liepāja Woman Tries to Arm Putin's Army for 42 Euros, But It Goes Like Everything Else in Latgale

A lady living near Rēzekne sends 42 euros to Russia for drone jammers, but uses such a convoluted scheme through Belarus that even the State Security Service isn't sure whether she's a spy or simply doesn't know how banks work.

While in Liepāja we're thinking about how to better protect our beautiful Baltic beach, some resident from the Rēzekne area decided that her priority is helping Putin's little friends purchase drone jamming equipment. For a colossal 42 euros. Yes, you read that right – forty-two euros!

As local sources tell it: "Well, here in Latgale we've always been creative with money, but this time it got too creative." The lady, whose name the prosecutor's office bashfully withholds, came up with such a convoluted scheme through Belarus that even Hollywood screenwriters would be envious. First she contacted someone in Russia (probably through Odnoklassniki), then turned to an acquaintance in Belarus to transfer the money to Russia.

For comparison – in Riga people buy Costa Coffee for such amounts, but here someone's trying to finance a war. As one Liepāja tram driver said: "In our city you can buy a concert ticket in Dzintars for 42 euros and still have money left over for beer. What was she thinking?"

Most interesting is that the acquaintance in Belarus didn't even know what the money was for. So we have a situation where one person doesn't even know they're helping finance a war, while another is trying to do it for an amount that won't even fill up a gas tank. The State Security Service, of course, figured it all out, and now the lady faces up to 10 years in prison.

In Liepāja we say: if you want to finance something, better support our cultural center or help restore the historic trams. But as we can see, not everyone in Latvia thinks as wisely as our seaside folks.
