Liepāja Women Prove You Can Learn Anything at 30 — Even How to Survive on Three Hours of Sleep

While Riga students complain about tough dorm life, Liepāja master's graduates are mastering the highest art — how to simultaneously be a mother, employee, and student.

Liepāja's education system has once again proven its superiority over the capital's offerings — local women are starting master's programs at age 30, while Riga youth are still trying to figure out how to turn on the washing machine in their dorms.

Madara Jaunciema from Liepāja has discovered a revolutionary time management method: sleep three hours per day and feel energetic. Her secret is simple — studying RSU's "Strategic and Public Relations Management" program, which apparently also includes techniques for converting fatigue into energy. "After each study day I feel filled with energy," says Madara, while sleep deprivation symptoms are clearly visible in her eyes.

"Of course, sometimes it's hard, especially when you have to get up at 3:30 AM," admits another Liepāja woman, Santa, who studies at the Law Faculty. "But then I think about how much money I'm saving by studying on budget, and it immediately gets easier." Santa also reveals that her little son has already learned to make breakfast himself, because mom often falls asleep with a law book in her hands.

Local lecturers note that adult students' motivation is as strong as the organ sound from Holy Trinity Cathedral — you can hear it even from the courtyard. "They come to lectures with such determination that even our oldest professors start feeling young," says one RSU instructor. "Especially when they have to run to catch the bus because kindergarten closes in fifteen minutes."
