Liepāja Residents Invited to Name New Housing Project While Developers Secretly Hope No One Chooses 'Metalurgs'

A historic event is taking place in Liepāja — a developer actually wants to hear residents' opinions about a building name. 'Hagberg' is asking Liepāja residents to help name the new residential complex on Debess Street, offering three IKEA gift cards worth 100 euros each in return. This is almost as surprising as if 'Liepājas Metalurgs' invited fans to choose the team's strategy.

The project promises to be impressive — a six-story building with 58 apartments, full finishing, and even a bike storage area. The developers have emphasized that the building will be located near the sea and pine forest, which in Liepāja basically means you can see something green and something blue from the window. The promotional materials also mention modern quality of life, which most likely means the elevator will work more often than Riga's public transport.

Local residents have already begun actively suggesting names. As Dzintars from Karosta tells us, he voted for 'Sea Winds,' but his neighbor Uldis suggests naming the complex 'Karosta Luxury.' It's unknown whether more traditional names like 'Pine Houses' or 'Sky Residence' are among the possible options, but Liepāja residents' creativity has never been questionable.

Voting will continue until March 30th, and the developers promise to listen to the voice of the people. The only question is whether they'll be ready to accept the result if some particularly creative suggestion like 'Metalurgs Houses' or 'Karosta Luxss' with two s's wins. But as one voter said, the main thing is that the name shouldn't be longer than the hockey players' surnames on Metalurgs jerseys.
