Liepāja Residents Once Again Prove Hearts Are Bigger Than Wallets - 852 Thousand Euros Donated for Children

While Riga residents were counting money, Liepāja residents were donating it. The 'Angels Over Latvia' campaign proved that real angels live in our city.

Well, once again Liepāja residents have proven that the heart is bigger than the wallet! In the charity campaign 'Angels Over Latvia,' our city's residents together with the rest of Latvia donated 852,193 euros. That's almost a million, which in Riga would only be the price of one coffee in Old Town!

As Karosta resident Maija tells us: 'We here by the sea know that children are our future. So we donate what we can. Even if there are only potatoes and herring at home.' And indeed - the campaign will help 416 children across Latvia, of which 234 will receive ABA therapy. That's more than the number of decent cafes in Riga!

Unlike in the capital, where everyone only thinks about themselves, Liepāja residents understand - helping others means helping yourself. As one donor who wished to remain anonymous said: 'I'd rather give 20 euros to a child than spend it on parking in Riga.' Foolish? No, heartfelt!

And while the January frost bites our cheeks outside, hearts remain warm knowing that 63 children will receive necessary medications. Because in Liepāja we may not know how to properly pronounce 'tramvajs' [tramway], but we know how to be human. And that's much more important than any Riga resident's grammar.
