A fresh study on career satisfaction in Latvia reveals a surprising truth – the farther from Riga, the happier the employee. In Liepāja, this indicator has reached cosmic heights, as locals have long understood that a real career begins where the asphalt quality of the Riga-Liepāja highway ends.
According to official data, 63% of respondents are satisfied with their career development. However, in Liepāja this figure is even higher. "I've been working in Karosta for twenty years and have never been happier," says Valdis, who takes the tram to work daily. "In Riga I would be just one in a million, but here I'm one in thirty thousand. The feeling is completely different!"
Those who continue learning feel particularly high satisfaction. At the University of Liepāja, this phenomenon is explained simply: "When you learn something new next to the sea, the brain works better. This is a scientifically proven fact," claims Professor Līga Jūrmaliņa. "Moreover, our students never leave for Riga because they understand that only stress and expensive cafes await them there."
