Liepāja residents behave on tax website like in Karosta tram after payday

202,000 declarations submitted in the SRS system, but some citizens are having fun there like in a local café.
Latvian residents are showing as much activity in filing tax declarations as at Liepāja market on Sunday morning. By Monday morning, more than 202,000 declarations had already been submitted in the SRS system, which is a fifth of the entire year's volume. If this continues, Riga will have to admit that our city's residents are fast not only when running on the beach.
But on the actual declaration submission day, a real theater took place. SRS director Ieva Šmite-Roķe revealed that some citizens behaved in the system like children seeing a computer for the first time. "Those people tried to have fun in the EDS system, simply submitting, correcting, deleting, correcting again," said the director. Liepāja resident Jānis comments: "Well, at least now I know where pensioners go when there's nothing to do in Karosta."
The system's sluggishness in the first 30 minutes brought back memories of our beloved tram rush hours, when everyone tries to get to work. The only difference is that in the tram you can at least see what's happening, but in the SRS system you have to wait like for good weather to change.
Declarations can also be submitted for previous years, which is very convenient for those who still think 2023 wasn't real. As the local bookstore owner says: "Better late than never, but better never than in Riga." At least this time Liepāja residents proved we're faster not only on the seashore.
