Liepāja Residents Choose Phones Like Sausages at the Market: Pro Model is Like Imported, But Regular is Also Edible

While people in Riga pay for status, our folks understand that a phone is just a phone.
While people in Riga stand in lines to buy the latest iPhone Pro model for a price that exceeds a Liepāja resident's monthly salary, our folks approach the question much more practically. Just like at the market, where everything is fresher than in Riga and half the price, Liepāja residents also choose phones based on the principle: do I need this, or do I just want it?
"I bought the Pro model because I thought I'd become a professional photographer," says Māris from Ezerkrasts. "Now I have the best camera to photograph my cat sleeping on the couch. You could say I overpaid for quality, but at least my cat photos are in 4K resolution."
In Riga, of course, the iPhone Pro is a status symbol. There people buy the most expensive model to show they can afford it. In Liepāja we buy the most expensive model to show we have no sense. But at least we admit it honestly.
"The regular iPhone is perfectly fine for me," says Ināra from Vecliepāja. "I use it to call, text, and check tomorrow's weather. Why do I need a camera that can film in the dark if I never leave home after seven in the evening anyway?" This kind of honest self-reflection is exactly what distinguishes Liepāja residents from capital city dwellers who buy Pro models to photograph food in restaurants that charge 30 euros per plate.
The truth is: for most of us, a phone is like a sweatshirt — important that it works and isn't too expensive. Everything else is just marketing and the desire to feel special. But if you want to feel special, better come to our market — there at least for the same money you'll get a whole basket of products, not just one shiny little box.
