Liepāja Residents Launch Collective Search Mission: Grandma Has Gone Missing, But Hearts Remain

The city begins a true demonstration of community - relatives organize a volunteer army to find the missing senior.
While in Riga people pass each other by like strangers, in Liepāja something completely opposite is happening. The city's residents are mobilizing like a real army to help find missing Mrs. Gunta, who left the nursing home on February 11th and hasn't returned.
"Grandma still hasn't been found, but we're waiting for her!" says granddaughter Annamarija, and in her words you can feel that true Liepāja character - we don't abandon our own. On Saturday at 10 AM volunteers will gather at the corner of Pļavu and Ukstiņa streets. This is the moment when you'll see how much Liepāja differs from the capital - here people don't call social services, they grab shovels and go searching themselves.
Particularly touching is that Mrs. Gunta was last seen by two ladies near the "Rūtiņa" store on Pļavu street. She was sitting on some steps, lost, asking for directions to Ganību street. The ladies showed her the way, but then left. Now, of course, everyone's thinking - why didn't we help more? But that's life - sometimes we don't know how important each moment is.
"Check your basements, hallways, sheds," the relatives plead. Because winter in Liepāja is no joke - even our experienced sailors know that warmth must be sought wherever it can be found. And if anyone thinks this kind of solidarity is something taken for granted, they haven't been to Riga - there they don't even know their neighbors' names. But in Liepāja? This is a different world, where "grandma" isn't just a word, but a family member for the entire city.
