Liepāja Resident Surprised: Fire at US Embassy in Riyadh Caused Without Our Tram's Participation

While the world drops drones on embassies, in Liepāja our old tram continues to peacefully spark along the tracks.

Today the Middle East once again proved they lack Liepāja's experience in handling complex situations. While in Riyadh two drones caused a "limited fire" at the US embassy, our city has been accustomed for years to our old tram creating much more spectacular sparks daily than any drone.

"Well, two drones and only a small fire? Our tram does that every morning on the way to Karosta," comments local resident Gunārs, who has been riding route 1 daily for 30 years. "Plus the sparks are more colorful."

Saudi Arabia's air defense managed to intercept four out of six drones, but this doesn't impress Liepāja residents. "In Riga they probably wouldn't even notice such drones - the air is so smoggy there you can't see anything," laughs Karosta resident Maija. "But here our sea air is so clean you can spot every bird from a kilometer away."

The US embassy advised Americans to seek shelter, but in Liepāja we know the best shelter is the "Darbnica" café, where even if there was a war outside, the coffee would be hot and the cakes freshly baked. As always, Liepāja proves that our daily life "catastrophes" are much more exciting than world political conflicts.
